This film is made for my parents.
It is related to the director’s own experience. The story is about parents support their children to make dreams come true. No matter what happened, parents will be always waiting for their children, just like the lighthouse forever lighting for the boats.


這部影片給我父母的禮物.
"光之塔"是一個有關父母的故事。講述遊子追求夢想,父母就像燈塔一樣支持、看望與守護,也是自己生命經驗的寫照。
既電腦動畫[回憶抽屜]之後,經歷幾年沈潛,有了這部新的小品之作,[光之塔]。 雖然是2D而非3D動畫,然而這次的作品嘗試更以[故事]為主軸,希望能反璞歸真,回到動畫與影片的本質。我相信好的故事與訴說意涵是創作的靈魂,希望樸實簡約的手繪風格,能帶給觀者更深切的共鳴,找尋最原始而單純的感動。

【Line of Action - 表演參考線條】



【W⁺】Line of Action 的觀念並沒有 2D 與 3D 的差別,是種視覺構圖的原則,能幫助表演的設計佈局(staging),包含 pose、動線、構圖等等。善用這些表演線條,能幫助故事的表達,也甚至能暗示即將開展的表演。Line of Action 是一種觀念,也是好用的工具。以下只做簡單的介紹,原文非常詳細,極推薦!

In animation, the term staging refers to the purpose of directing the audience's attention, and make it clear what is of greatest importance in a scene; what is happening, and what is about to happen. This can be done by various means, such as the placement of a character in the frame, the use of light and shadow, and the angle and position of the camera.

As shown in this post, the position and posture of the characters in the scene can greatly effect the staging and composition, in addition, it can help to place the characters within the situation, making them part of their environment and the story.



剪影(silhouette)構圖的概念:


負空間(negative space) 與重疊(overlapping):
The use of negative space and overlapping shapes for posing characters creates clear silhouettes, see the empty spaces between the arms and legs and major forms in these drawings



有張力的線條:
Another method is to create a strong line of action through your character. This helps your poses "read", it makes them clear and understandable and gives them a distinct non-ambiguous direction.

老實說,我覺得音樂在一個Demo Reel中一點也不重要。我很懷疑雇主憑著demo裡選擇的歌曲去僱一個動畫師這種辦法的有效度。

Honestly, I don't think music is important at all on a demo reel. I would question the validity of any recruiter that wanted to hire an animator based on their song choice.

我其實從來不在我的demo裡放音樂。有些人愛在他們的動畫demo裡放一首重口味的搖滾歌曲或者節拍很重的舞曲來幫忙給娛樂性加分,這我很能理解。個人來講,我不喜歡放任何會導致從動畫上分散注意力的東西,這包括音樂和包裝。

I have actually never put music over my demo reel. Some people love putting a big rock song or a dance beat over their animation to help the entertainment factor, which I totally understand. Personally, I don't like putting anything on my reel that distracts from the animation. That includes both the music and the packaging.

我不希望有人像看電影一樣看我的demo,我也不想他們花時間盯著我郵過去的華麗的包裝盒看。目標是讓他們關注他們看的動畫。我聽說很多的雇主會關掉音量如果背景音樂太分心,而對你的對話沒有幫助的話。

I'm not hoping someone watches my demo and is entertained in the way they would be by a movie. I also don't want them spending time staring at the ornate box I sent it in. The goal is to have them focus on the work they are watching. I've heard that a lot of recruiters will turn off the volume if there is a distracting song playing, which won't help your dialogue shots too much.

有個業內資深的朋友告訴我,雇主圈有個不成文關於demo reel的假設,那就是,包裝愈花俏愈精美,動畫愈不怎麼樣。

I was told by a friend who has been in the industry for a long time that there was a general assumption among recruiters about demo reels: the fancier the packaging and presentation, the less likely the animation is good.

“少即是多”這話對demo reel來說絕對是正確的。

Less is definitely more when it comes to demo reels.

【W⁺】 這個任何行銷的觀念都一樣,不管是品牌還是個人。即便是 demo reel ,也需要看是要做給誰看,找工作用的?還是炫耀展示用的? 如果是找工作,也需要看是什麼類型的公司?考量是否需要針對不同公司作不同版本?還是不管,就做一種就好,也都需要做選擇與判斷。

音樂在 demo reel 中重不重要?其實也要看做的動畫是什麼類型的吧?比如跳舞類的肯定是表演與音樂節奏並重,只看畫面是不會曉得動畫與音樂的 timing 是否合拍與到位。

個人看法是,只要專業的根本~表演~本身做得夠好,就有很多可以加分的空間;反之,如果表演本身亂七八糟,還耍花招,那就讓人覺得本末倒置、甚至是喧賓奪主的干擾,讓人覺得有模糊焦點、魚目混珠之嫌。

問題是,有多少人會知道自己的東西是做得不好的?(那還敢去應徵!?)

有個老闆會在乎表演的基本功,能做到導演要求的動作就好,那他就不會在意整體的安排與設計,包括音樂。有的老闆期望動畫師具有整體掌握的能力,能設計表演等等,那或許會期望動畫師的 demo reel 是有經過整體設計的,當然,包括音樂與畫面相互配合的整體節奏。
